...and now back to you, Tumblr
I’ve had an old self-hosted Wordpress blog for about five years now that I’ve made about a half-dozen posts on and otherwise neglected. Last year I started to look at Posterous and Tumblr as nice, in-between blogging services. I signed up for both, but for reasons I can’t quite remember, I started using Posterous more, I think mostly because I found the post-by-email idea to be somewhat appealing, and liked its clean design.
I proceeded to post a few things here and there on Posterous, while mostly neglecting my Tumblr site. A few days ago, I started playing with Disqus for another project, and decided the best way to experiment with it was to try it on my own blog. Of course, Posterous can’t do Disqus while Tumblr integrates it very nicely. In the process, I noticed that Tumblr has made some nice strides in the past year, and it occurred to me that the post-by-e-mail feature of Posterous really wasn’t nearly as practical as I liked. Further, the auto-post everywhere feature of Posterous was something I generally left off… Starting with Posterous and branching out from there was never really my style, as I never saw the point in advertising every little thing I posted or blogged. If people actually want to read what I”m writing, they can find me, but I’m not so self-interested to believe that I need to advertise my inane rantings to the world. :)
Anyway, as a result of all of this I started moving my Posterous posts back over here to Tumblr. I do like the social aspects and overall design of Tumblr more than Posterous, I’ve found, and it seems like something I might actually use more, although we’ll have to wait and see how that works out.
