The Blues Brothers
The first — and still best — of the SNL films, largely because it isn’t based on one-joke characters. Actually, there isn’t much to the characters of Jake and Elwood Blues (John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd), meaning they just provide the framework for director John Landis to stage some incredible musical numbers and smash up half the city of Chicago. Since the Brothers only appeared on SNL performing songs, there was no need to call back to the sketch comedy; the movie was allowed to create its own world with its own rules. No SNL movie would share the same luxury again. You’d be hard pressed to find a movie as raucous or fun as The Blues Brothers.”

"Hurry up and wait" - the Android OS story
Picture this:
Apple announces the release of iOS 5, but instead of announcing a specific release date as it has done in the past, Steve Jobs gets up on stage and simply says something like, “iOS 5 will be coming to your iPhone or iPad in the next few weeks.” No release date, no specifics, just a generic “coming soon” statement.
Now, if that’s not bad enough, imagine a few days later when users start reporting online that they’ve received the latest and greatest iOS 5 update. You immediately go to the “Check for updates” button, but are told that iOS 4.3.3 is the most current version. You shrug and assume that the iTunes servers are just busy and that it will show up soon.

An Apple HDTV is not a solution (yet)
There’s been a lot of discussion lately about Apple getting into the business of manufacturing actual television sets. Despite the latest cranking from the rumour mill, however, I still think this remains unlikely as ever for one very simple reason…
Apple is about providing full solutions, not individual products. I don’t see them entering a business where they can’t provide all of the pieces.
Does this mean that Apple will never get into the TV business? No, but it does mean that Apple will wait until the time is right, and I do not believe that time is now. The TV industry has room for improvement — some would even suggest that it needs a lot of help, but the average consumer is not yet ready for an all-in-one solution provided by any company, be that Apple, Sony or any other of the plethora of TV manufacturers or media companies.
